Breast Augmentation

Regardless of the implant filling, the outer layer is composed of silicone elastomer. Numerous studies have investigated the possible link between silicone breast implants and various diseases. The findings show no evidence to support an increased risk of breast cancer, autoimmune disorders or other systemic diseases associated with silicone breast implants.

During your consultation, you will discuss your desired breast shape and size, as well as any concerns about the procedure. Sufficient time will be devoted to addressing your questions and making sure you are well informed about the benefits and risks of the procedure. We will do a full assessment of the shape, symmetry, skin quality and appearance of your breasts. To help you visualize the desired breast size, you will have the opportunity to try silicone gauges under a tight T-shirt for a more accurate view of the final result. Based on your preferences and our assessment, we will choose the appropriate implants together.

Breast augmentation can be performed under general anesthesia, sedation with local anesthesia, or local anesthesia only. It is unusual for women to choose consciousness during the procedure due to discomfort with local anesthesia alone. Therefore, some form of general anesthesia is usually administered. Modern techniques allow shallow anesthesia (sedation) supplemented with local anesthesia, providing effective pain management.

Patients usually stay overnight after surgery, or if the procedure is performed earlier in the day, they can leave the clinic by evening. Pain medication is often needed during the first week to manage postoperative pain, especially with submuscular insertion. Wearing a sports bra provides the necessary support during this initial period. The wounds are covered with surgical tape for two weeks and must be protected from the sun for at least six months. Showers can usually be taken a few days after surgery, with baths allowed after two weeks. Physical activity should be avoided for at least two weeks, gradually resuming afterwards. The initial swelling may make the breasts appear larger, but most of it resolves within the first few months. As the tissue adapts to the implant, subtle changes in the shape of the breast may occur over time. A final appointment is scheduled six months after surgery to evaluate the results.

Breast augmentation usually does not interfere with breastfeeding and it has been confirmed by scientific studies that there is no silicon in breast milk.
